Greenhouse cucumber: the fast crop that chains cycles

By the Ghana Greenhouse team · Published on 8 September 2026 · Updated on 8 September 2026

Cucumber is one of the fastest greenhouse crops: first harvests are possible within weeks. A short cycle and easy rotation make it the ideal crop to keep your greenhouse busy between two longer campaigns, and to earn quickly after installation.

Train the plants vertically

On strings, cucumber climbs and the greenhouse is used in height. Hanging fruit grow straight, stay clean — they never touch the ground — and are harvested without bending. A straight, clean fruit sells better than a twisted, dirty one: vertical training pays for itself.

Regular water, never a shortage

Cucumber does not forgive thirst: a water-stressed plant gives bitter, unsellable fruit. That is exactly what drip irrigation prevents: a regular amount, every day, directly at the base. With it, stress-related bitterness disappears from the equation.

Harvest every two or three days

An overripe cucumber slows the whole plant: it concentrates its energy on that fruit's seeds instead of producing new ones. Harvest every two or three days — a demanding rhythm, but the one that keeps production at its peak.

The rotation advantage: between two tomato crops

Many of our clients grow cucumber between two tomato campaigns: its short cycle keeps the greenhouse busy, earns quickly and frees the soil for the next campaign. A greenhouse that never sits empty pays itself back faster.
